The William B. Sanford Memorial VFW Post 7248 was formed by a group of Sparta World War II veterans over sixty years ago and is still in existence today at 66 Main Street. The VFW also sponsored and housed Sparta’s first ambulance squad in 1947. The VFW sponsors programs to help America’s veterans such as Operation Uplink, a program where soldiers overseas are given phone cards to call loved ones free of charge. Other programs include the Voice of Democracy that encourages area high school students to compete in an essay contest to foster Americanism. Every spring the VFW conducts a poppy drive to help needy veterans in VA hospitals. Local community activities include sponsoring Boy Scout Troop 95 and presenting Eagle Scout Awards to scouts who have earned that distinction. The VFW also proudly organizes the annual Memorial Day parade. The VFW is always seeking to increase its membership and encourages all veterans who served in the military overseas to join. Anyone wishing to contribute to Operation Uplink, or to the VA hospitals is asked to send monetary donations payable to Sparta VFW at 66 Main Street, Sparta, NJ.

ReplyDeleteLord & Taylor of the Rockaway Town Square Mall will be hosting a charity day weekend May 26th through May 29th. We are currently selling donation tickets for $5.00 each with all benefits going directly to the USO, with donation receive a 25% off almost everything plus 10% off fragrances.
Current and past members of the military and their families will receive tickets for free with military I.D card.
We will also be having coffee and donuts on Saturday from 9am-11am for past and present members of the military.
